SUBJECT: Sun Manual의 구성과 보는 법
DESCRIPTION:
* SunOS Reference Manual은 두 가지로 제공된다.
1) Document set : SunOS Reference Manual I, II, III
2) 'man' command를 사용하여 볼 수 있는 on-line manual
이는 흔히 'man page'라고 부른다.
* Manual의 Section :
이들 Manual은 8개의 setion으로 분류되어 있고 각 section은 aphabet 순으로 되어 있다.
그 내용을 살펴 보면,
1) Section 1 : user command를 설명.
2) Section 2 : system call
3) Section 3 : library routines
4) Section 4 : device에 관련된 special files
5) Section 5 : system administration에 관련된 주요 system file들을 설명한다.
6) Section 6 : Sun에서 돌아가는 game, demo program들을 설명한다.
7) Section 7 : "public file"로 알려진 것들을 설명한다.
ascii table과 같은 table들과
'nroff', 'troff'과 같은 text formatting programs를 사용하는
macro package들을 포함한다.
8) Section 8 : system administration/maintenance command와 daemon들을 설명.
* 간혹 utility나 application을 install했을 때 command 또는 library등에 관련된
man page가 각 section으로 들어 갈 수 있으나,
이런 종류의 man page는 대개 자신의 man page directory를 따로이 가지고 있으면서
shell 환경변수 MANPATH에 추가하여 불러 보는 것이 일반적 이다.
* 예를들어, passwd를 보고 싶다면
"% man passed"를 하면 on-line man page가 보여질 것이다.
이 때 보여지는 것은 Section 1의 command를 보여 주는 것이므로
만약 /etc/passwd를 보고자 했을 때는"% man 5 passwd"를 수행하여
참조해야 할 것이다.
* keyword를 사용하여 관련 man page가 무엇 무엇인가를 확인하기 위해선
"% man -k passwd"로 '-k' option을 사용하면 된다.
이는 default man directory인 /usr/man에 whatis라는 data file이 있어야 한다.
이 data file은 "/usr/etc/catman -w"를 수행하면 자동 생성된다.
